Renewable Remediation for River Regeneration

The Floating Wetlands are DIY solar-powered floating rafts planted with wetland vegetation and anchored in the Hudson River to help clean up combined sewer overflows in the Hudson River using living plants and beneficial bacteria. They show people that affordable, grassroots solutions to climate and pollution are possible. Many kids in Albany have never even been to the river, so we use these projects to reconnect them with the land and water around them.

Through a combination of renewable energies and ecological design practices, the floating island demonstrates how it is possible to address pollution in our city with techniques that are sustainable, affordable, equitable, and educational.
