The EcoJustice Associates-also known as our Youth Employees–support day-to-day farm responsibilities and long-term community health projects. Beyond agricultural work, this program spans cooking, professional development, and career exposure. Radix looks to inspire individuals to be more engaged with the natural world and their local community.

Applications for these paid positions are open to Albany-area youth currently enrolled in high school who have an interest in sustainability and don’t mind getting their hands dirty.

The Radix Ecological Sustainability Center proudly partners with the Albany Central School District (ACSD) for enrichment programs, both on-site at Radix and at several neighborhood schools.

It’s not uncommon to see full classes enjoying their time on the farm learning about compost, pressing apples into cider, or just hanging out with our chickens and ducks.

At the neighborhood schools, we offering a variety of structured, hands-on learning experiences that cover garden maintenance, planting, and harvesting. When the weather isn’t cooperating, our classroom enrichment explores a variety of topics including ecosystems, food access, natural resource conservation, air pollution, soil restoration, composting, plant life cycles, and coevolution.

Increased time outside positively impacts student health, focus, and enjoyment of their time at school. We encourage students to think critically about environmental and social issues from new perspectives, as well as see themselves as agents of change.
